Fill d\u2019un cirurgi\u00e0 eminent de qui potser va heretar el talent per a la dissecci\u00f3 i l\u2019observaci\u00f3 de la naturalesa humana, des de ben jove va mostrar una passi\u00f3 irrenunciable per crear hist\u00f2ries. Flaubert va dedicar la vida a construir personatges m\u00e9s reals que la immensa majoria de mortals. La seva obra es defineix per un car\u00e0cter modern (i obsessiu) sense el qual no s\u2019entenen figures posteriors com Kafka, Joyce o Proust. Flaubert pretenia construir un llibre que se sostingu\u00e9s exclusivament en l\u2019estil, en el ritme, i en una bellesa gramatical com la de la poesia. Alguns diuen que amb <em>Madame Bovary<\/em> (\u00abEmma Bovary c\u2019est moi!\u00bb), la seva obra m\u00e9s celebrada i un llibre sobre no res que, de fet, \u00e9s un llibre sobre tot, ho va aconseguir.
